2022 Webinar Series Speakers
Amanda Calhoun, MD, MPH
Dr. Amanda Calhoun is a Yale Psychiatry resident in the Albert J. Solnit Integrated Adult/Child Psychiatry Program. She received her BA in Spanish from Yale University and her MD and MPH from Saint Louis University. She currently leads the Yale Resident Spanish Initiative and is co-Vice Chair of the Diversity Council of the Yale Resident Fellow Senate.
Dr. Calhoun has authored over 10 publications, the majority of which she is first author, and has presented abstracts and oral presentations in numerous conferences. Her research interests focus on the the improvement of mental health outcomes in African/African diaspora and indigenous children as well as global mental health. She has won several research awards through APA, AACAP, and Yale Department of Psychiatry for her research projects focusing on the development and implementation of sustainable, culturally relevant, and up-scalable mental health interventions in Guatemala and Nigeria.
Dr. Calhoun is the author of the the NEJM journal article we will review in our webinar on February 11, 2022 at Noon entitled “The Pathophysiology of Racial Disparities”.
Yvette Marie Miller, MD
Dr. Yvette Marie Miller is the Executive Medical Officer for the American Red Cross. She has had a long career with Red Cross, serving in various leadership capacities including regional Medical Director and Director of Automated Collections and Clinical Services. As the Executive Medical Officer, she oversees donor eligibility determination, product management and donor management. Dr. Miller’s areas of expertise include donor recruitment and retention in the African American community to support the transfusion needs of patients with Sickle Cell Disease, equitable access to blood donation for all underrepresented communities and leading conversations on addressing structural racism and bias and the impact on access to healthcare, economic development and education.
Dr. Miller is the co-chair of the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM) BIPOC Committee, which was created in June 2020 to serve as a catalyst for meaningful transformation towards racial equity in integrative health. She is also a member of the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion AdHoc Committee.

Augustus Parker, III, MD
Dr. Augustus Parker III is a Board Certified practicing physician in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology who has devoted much of his time serving the Columbus, Ohio community. He previously served as the Director of Robotic Surgery and Physician Director of Diversity and Health Equity for M. Carmel Health System in Central Ohio. He currently serves as the Medical Director for Novant Healthcare’s Women’s Urgent Care Centers. He is a Community Ambassador and Facilitator in Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity. He was recently appointed to the Faculty Leadership for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine Branch Campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition, he is the City Coordinator for the African American Wellness Initiative for Charlotte.
Dr. Parker is an inventor, holding patients on medical devices and tools used in practice today. He pioneered the Mobile Health Units that are currently serving Columbus City Schools in Columbus, Ohio. He has served on numerous boards such as the YMCA, the Medical Advisory Committee for the Eastside Surgical Center, the Ohio Sickle Cell board of trustees, The Ohio State University Resident Selection Committee, the Ohio State University Medical Schools Admissions Committee, The Ohio Perinatal Quality Collaborative, Better Birth Outcomes, and the Blue Chip Foundation.He is also a published author, recently releasing his book, “Mining Diamonds”.
